A recipe for the holidays

Okay. I work at Macey's Bakery in Pleasant Grove. I'm not one for cakes and cookies and such, but I found this recipe in a cook book recently and I wanted to try it. It's amazing!!! The Chocolate cake is so most and sweet. It's so good!!!

1 3/4 Cup Sugar
2/3 Cup Shortening
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
2 1/2 Cup Flour
1 1/2 tsp soda
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup Buttermilk
1/2 cup cocoa
1/2 Cup hot water

Blend sugar and shortening together. Add eggs and vanilla and beat well. Sift together dry ingredients and alternate flour and buttermilk until mixed well. Mix hot water and cocoa and add last. Mix well 2 minutes. Heat over to 375 degrees. Bake 30 minutes.

And a great buttercream frosting!

1/4 cup Butter
1/4 cup Whipping Cream
2 Cups Powdered Sugar
1 tsp vanilla

Cream butter until smooth, add whipping cream and vanilla and enough powdered sugar to make a smooth frosting.

Abigal Jane Holt

Abigal was born on December 8th at 2:50am after one hour and fifty minutes of labor. She weighed 5 lbs and 13 oz and was 18 inches long. At about eight o'clock that morning they realized that she had a blood sugar malfunction in her system. Little babies like her are sometimes born with a blood sugar immaturity. Their little bodies just don't know how to process sugar yet. So, she was checked into the NICU with an iv. They gave her 8 ml of sugar every hour and just kept testing her blood sugar levels. The next day they slowly turned her IV down as long as her blood sugar was above 60. So every three hours they'd poke her little foot and test her blood. Seriously a hard thing for a Mommy to watch. I left the hospital Thursday morning around eight and Abby came home Thursday night at seven. We're so excited for her to finally be here and so glad she's alright. Yay for such a precious blessing!

I keep seeing this cover on the car seats at work. I've fallen completely in love with the design. So I asked my Mom for help and her and I came up with this! I'm so grateful to have such a talented and willing Mom who will help me get better at my talents! Thanks Mom!
